I've been looking around and everyone seems to be into this monsoon cdplayer? Why is that?

I don't know...I have one too and I like how the whole system sounds but I'm not sure what's so special about it, I'm kinda eager to hear what the raves about now...

well I dont have a cd player in mine. Just the basic am/fm radio but I have a really nice cd player out of my other car that I want to get in asap but I dont want to start taking things apart and then not be able to install it...is there any reason that my panisonic cd player wont install?

Is it not fitting? As long as you order the right bracket for it and get the proper wiring harness you can put it in with no problems.

Well I haven't tried to put it in yet. I was saving that for this weekend but wanted to discuss it alittle before I starterd. Also, I've never had a wiring harness. I've always just done it wire by wire BUT a wiring harness does sound good this time. I guess you could just find one online somewhere though huh?? And as far as the braket...what do you mean? I mean, the one thats in there wont work? In the back of my mind that sounds like a dumb question but whatever.

The Monsoon package is a whole system (headunit and speakers.) If you don't have it, no big deal.

So basically what you're saying is you're going to put a new headunit in? Single DIN or double?
Get a wiring harness, but even then you're still going to be running some power wires and dimmer wires. www.enfig.com will have the harness you need.

A bracket would be what holds the CD player in place. Typically a stock CD player will also be very tall/wide, and an after-market will be slim, thus requiring a new bracket to sit in. The brackets are usually around 25-50 dollars depending on the car, and a wiring harness is a much better idea than just connecting wires because the wrong wire to another wire can blow a fuse in your car (personal experience, don't ask lol). The wiring harness should be about 12-20 dollars depending on where you buy it. I don't know if there is a best buy near you, but that is probably the wisest place to look if you don't feel like waiting for shipping, they usually have the parts right in their install bay. I'm not sure if you'll need more like the guy above me says, as far as I know all you need is the harness and a bracket to hold the cd player in place.

my wifes car had the monsoon sound system in it.
In order to install her new cd player the car had to be re-wired because the monsoon system in her car ran at 2 Ohms and the factory wiring ran through the amp. Bypassing the amp is a royal pain but can be done.
This still leaves you with a typical aftermarket cd player internal amplifier at 4 ohms and speakers that pull a 2 ohm load.
It wasnt a big deal because i was having everything replaced, but could have been a royal pain.
For the day after we owned it that it had the monsoon system still in it, i wasnt impressed.

yo if have the monsoon system, you can't just get any harness... VW makes great cars, but the pretty much don't want u to change anything thats why they include monsoon packages thinking thats what people want... it is upgraded speakers and tweeters, and is powered by a small amp in the trunk.. but back to the harness... u will most likely need to go to
a local car audio shop, I would never recommend best buy or circuit city or anything like that, alot of places aren't very familiar with german vehicles... but you will need a special harness that has a built in module that bypasses
certain things that any old harness will not.. If you don't get the right harness, you may have problems that don't exist ex: check engine lights etc. My harness was around 100 bucks..pricey but worth it after hearing from about 3 well known shops that you do need it...

I have a buddy that installs car audio every day for 10 hours, and I asked him about it, it's a bracket for 50 bucks it doesn't mess with the wiring at all, all it does is make sure that the required wires are wored into the new cd layer and the unnecessary wires (e.g. tape deck, equalizer knobs, AM/FM controls, etc.) aren't wired to anything. The reason I recommend Best Buy is because they have a BOOK on what the right part is for what vehicle, I never said have Best Buy install it. I'd buy the part from them and then install it myself personally. You don't have to bypass a lot of stuff because nothing too important is wired into the CD player. The only reason to pull the monsoon out is to put in a whole new system with speakers so you don't bypass anything you just replace it all, stock, tweeters, speakers, amp, wiring, everything.

I was an installer for a couple years and installed a head unit in my MK4 w/ a monsoon system. I expected to bypass my factory amp but wired everything up WITH A HARNESS FROM MY LOCAL STEREO SHOP and everything worked fine. I've been running it for months with no problems. So to simplify things, go to your local stereo shop, mention you have a monsoon system and ask for a wiring harness. Hook it up (it's color coded for after market head units) and you should be good to go. Done deal.
